In the context of the topics addressed on the Smartest Metering Platform (SMT Platform), metering refers to all those services related to the metering of consumption and billing of the costs of electricity, gas, heat and water at the house or apartment connection.

Calibrated measuring devices are used at the respective measuring points to determine consumption. The costs are made up of the basic price, a performance price if applicable, and the labor price multiplied by the metered consumption, and are billed directly to the service recipient by the respective service provider. The basic, service and labor prices are known in advance. Line losses up to the metering point are borne by the supplier.
