Gateway & AMR & Walk-By

Gateway & AMR & Walk-By

A report by Jaroslaw Lisiecki, Engelmann Sensor GmbH

GATEWAY

A device that collects readings from energy meters (heat, gas, electricity), water meters and heat cost allocators and makes them available via remote transmission. The latter is mostly done via the Internet, but other types of remote transmission are also possible.

The image represents data collection using a wireless gateway. The meters send their data to the gateway via radio. This transmits the collected data via mobile communications (e.g. LTE) to a server or sends it by e-mail.

In contrast, with a wired gateway, the meters are connected to the gateway via cable. The data can be transmitted to the gateway via M-Bus, for example. This transfers the collected data to a server via the Internet or sends it by e-mail.

AMR

AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) describes a system that collects consumption, diagnostic and status data from energy meters (heat, gas, electricity), water meters and heat cost allocators and sends this data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting and analysis

WALK-BY

Walk-by is the remote reading of meter data using a portable receiver. Usually, one uses a receiver that receives the meter data directly and stores it on a computer (e.g., a tablet).
