Hidden Champion Engelmann Nominated for the “Grand Prize for SMEs 2025”
Engelmann Sensor GmbH has been nominated for one of the most prestigious SME awards in Germany.
Engelmann Sensor GmbH, a leading manufacturer of heat and cooling BTU meters with nearly 50 years of experience in the submetering market, has been nominated for one of the most significant awards for small and medium-sized enterprises. The “Großer Preis des Mittelstandes“, awarded by the Oskar Patzelt Foundation, is one of the most coveted business accolades in Germany. Out of all companies nationwide, only about one in a thousand makes it onto the nomination list, and Engelmann is among them.
It is not possible to apply for this award independently; nominations can only be made through external recommendations. Additionally, companies cannot buy their way into the competition, which sets this award apart from many others, making it authentic, fair, and transparent. The “Grand Prize for SMEs” also serves as a gateway to the “Network of the Best.” Unlike any other business award in Germany, it evaluates the entirety of what makes a company successful. Looking back at the past four years and ahead to 2025, the award considers:
- Revenue, profitability, equity development, and investments
- Unique selling points and competitive position
- Creation and security of jobs and apprenticeships
- Employee enthusiasm
- Expenditures on research and development
- Promotion of innovation, modernization, and process optimization
- Willingness to collaborate
- Commitment to the environment, social responsibility, education, entrepreneurship, and voluntary work
- Marketing expenditures
- Communication strategy and differentiation
- Customer service, events, trade shows, and media presence
“Our extensive experience, specialized expertise, and innovative technology make Engelmann the partner for a sustainable future. We are thrilled about the nomination for the Grand Prize for SMEs and are confident in excelling in every aspect,” said Michael Keuthen, Managing Director of Engelmann.
The nomination period for companies ended in early February. Engelmann Sensor GmbH is now preparing all the necessary documentation to advance from the nomination list to the jury list. By mid-2025, jurors from twelve regional juries and two special juries will decide on the winners. In the fall of 2025, the winners will be honored at various events. To put it in perspective: in 2024, 4,600 companies were nominated nationwide, but only 451 advanced to the jury list. Currently, 1,250 companies are nominated nationwide, including 375 from Baden-Württemberg.
